Effects of tannery waste on growth dynamics and metal uptake in Salix alba L

چکیده
This paper aims at providing a preliminary study of the effects of different doses of tannery waste containing high amounts of organic substances, mineral elements and heavy metals on growth dynamics and metal accumulation in willow plants. Scions of Salix alba L., clone S61-02, were grown in the open near Pisa (Italy), in pots filled with a natural soil. Willows were pruned for a unique shoot and cultivated with three different treatments: non-amended soil, soil amended with 150 or 300 g of tannery waste. Non-destructive measures of plant height and leaf area were performed during one growth season. Determination of biomass, and chemical analyses of the minerals were performed at the end of the experiment. The wastetreated plants increased all growth parameters significantly more than the non-treated ones. The concentration of the analysed elements (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Cr) changed significantly between treatments and organs. The results can be useful for developing phytostabilization and/or phytoextraction strategies of tannery waste using S. alba.

Response of leaf and fine roots proteomes of Salix viminalis L. to growth on Cr-rich tannery waste
The tannery industry is a major source of anthropogenic chromium (Cr) contamination due to the large amounts of solid waste produced and its problematic management. The unique composition of tannery waste, usually high concentrations of Cr and other metals as well as organic matter and nutrients, makes it a great risk for soil and water environment but also a possible effective fertilizer for n...

In order to investigate the effect of growth media and nutrition method on the growth of Bellis perennis L. and nutrients uptake, a factorial experiment was conducted with two factors: growth media (municipal waste compost, Azolla compost, tea wastes compost) and nutrition method (without fertilizer, soil application, foliar spray) in comparison to the control medium (60% soil + 20% manure + 10...

This research aims to study the effect of Mycorrizal fungus and Plant-Growth-Promoting Bacteria (PGPB) on Cadmium (Cd) uptake by one-year-old Eucalyptus Camaldulensis seedlings. The treatments have involved three levels of heavy metal (0, 30, and 60 mg/kg) for Cd, and three bacterial levels (no bacteria (B0), Bacillus (Ba105), and Pseudomonas (Ps36, Ps448)), inoculated with mycorrhizal fungus G...

Pollution of aquatic environments by toxic trace metals has been taking place because of discharge of untreated effluents from many industrial processes. Conventional methods used for removing dissolved heavy metal ions from wastewaters have significant disadvantages including incomplete metal removal, requirements for expensive equipment, high energy requirements and generation of toxic sludge...
متن کاملA Study on removal of chromium from tannery effluent treatment of chrome tanning waste water using tannery solid waste
This study illustrates the process of removal of chromium from chrome tanning waste-water by fly ash which was drive from chrome shaving dust. This experiment was carried out in a batch process with laboratory prepared adsorbent samples and chrome tanning water collected from local tanneries. The influence of various factors likes adsorbent doses, contact time, and initial concentration of chro...
